Extended Skopje Ice Fest 2019 ended - Torpedo Bucharest wins trophy for first time

The extended 7th edition of the Skopje Ice Festival hockey tournament finally ended on wednesday night, with the game for the bronze medal between the two hosting teams Macedonia Juniors and HK Vardar Skopje.

Due to ice conditions (summer-like weather in Skopje...) the bronze medal game was postponed from sunday morning to monday, but was finally played wednesday night.

Torpedo Bucharest wins for the first time the ice festival

But already on sunday the final game of the Skopje Ice Festival 2019 was held. The two dominating teams of the preliminary round were facing for the trophy. The guests from Romania, ACS Torpedo Bucharest, took the trophy home with a solid 6:1 (2:0, 1:1, 3:0) win over Team International - an international and gender mixed team.

In a fast and attractive game the man of the match was Torpedo's goalkeeper, as he saved all five penalty shots for Team International (instead 2 minute minors, penalty shots were called).

For Torpedo it was the first success at the tournament, they won the trophy unbeaten. It was the third time in a row the hockey club from Romania visited Macedonia.

Also for the first time the organizers had the idea to form an international team for the tournament, so a public call was made and players from Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, Slovenia, Slovakia and USA made the trip to Skopje for hockey and fun. For 'Team International' also appeared Macedonians with double citizenship, so this led to a new idea: why not to form for the next Skopje Ice Fest 2020 a team with Macedonians living outside Macedonia...stay tuned for 'Team Macedonian Diaspora'!
