Mike Angelidis moves to Italy

Mike Angelidis is moving to Italy, to the Foxes from Bolzano in the Austrian based Erste Bank Eishockey Liga.
Angelidis is a former team mate and friend of Steven Stamkos, both with macedonian heritage (watch video below text).

Mike Angelidis played four years in the Ontario Hockey League between 2002-03 and 2005-06 with the Owen Sound Attack. Mike was a lowly ninth round pick by the Attack at the 2001 OHL Priority Selection but went on to become a 53 goal scorer with the Owen Sound, Ontario club in his final season.

Over his career, he played in 240 regular season games, scoring 78 goals and assisting on 54 for 132 points. In the post season, Angelidis added 26 points in 30 games. Much of his success came in 2005-06.

In his last year with Owen Sound, Mike was named an OHL First Team All-Star as he finished third in the league with 53 goals, just four goals behind co-leaders David Bolland and Rob Schremp, both of the London Knights. His offensive explosion came after scoring just a combined total of 25 goals over his first three seasons.

Also in 2005-06, Angelidis was honoured with the Dan Snyder Trophy as the OHL’s humanitarian of the year. It didn’t stop there. Mike was also named the CHL Humanitarian of the Year.

Undrafted to the National Hockey League, Mike has played pro hockey since 2006-07 in the ECHL, AHL and NHL. His NHL experience is limited to 14 games, all played with the Tampa Bay Lightning between 2011-12 and 2015-16.

In the AHL, Angelidis has played in 681 regular season games, scoring 133 and assisting on 147 for 280 points while also sitting 1,349 minutes in penalties. In the Calder Cup playoffs, he added 24 points over a respectable 64 games. In 2011-12, he helped the Norfolk Admirals to a Calder Cup championship, beating the Toronto Marlies in the finals. With the Syracuse Crunch in 2012-13, he again reached the finals before losing to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Mike was team captain of the Crunch from 2012-13 to 2015-16 and carried on the role with the Stockton Heat in 2016-17. With the Heat, Angelidis played 49 regular season games, contributing 20 points. He appeared in five playoff games with Stockton being bounced in the opening round.

HC Bolzano
HC Bolzano has existed in some form since 1933. The club moved to the EBEL in 2013-14, previously playing in Italy’s Lega Italiana Hockey su Ghiaccio (LIHG). In their first EBEL season, the team won the championship. In 2016-17, the fell in the quarter-finals after finishing sixth in the 12 team league over the 54 game regular season. Home games are played at Palaonda in Bolzano, Italy, a 7,200 venue that opened in 1993.

Goaltender Jake Smith enters his second season with the Foxes after appearing in ten games with  Bolzano in 2016-17. Smith played goal for four years in the OHL from 2012-13 to 2015-16, all with the Battalion (3 years with Brampton and one with North Bay).

Pat Curcio takes over the head coaching job with the team after spending his past three years as assistant coach with HC Lugano in Switzerland’s NLA. Curcio played 20 games in the OHL with the Ottawa 67’s during the 1991-92 season. He was assistant coach with the London Knights in 2007-08 and 2008-09 and had the same role with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in 2010-11.
