Several Macedonian towns will get temporary ice rink

During the New Year and Christmas period several Macedonian towns will get a temporary ice rink.

The Youth and Sports Agency of Macedonia is looking for a company that will rent and install seven rinks in so many municipalities in the country.

The announcement requires the operator to install and dismantle the facilities in the municipality of Centar (Skopje), Strumica, Ohrid, Bitola, Tetovo, Gostivar, Kavadarci and Kumanovo.

No details on how much the agency will cost this idea, nor is the planned amount of this agreement announced. Last year the Diplomatic embassy of the European Union in the macedonian capital set up a skating rink on the Square in Skopje just beside the statue of Alexander the Great.

Hockey and Figure Skating Federations not involved

The Macedonian ice sports federations welcome the efforts during the last years and the upcoming winter with temporary ice rinks. But, they are not much involved in the whole project. The only involvement were showcases with some hockey players or figure skaters and some skating lessons for the public.

Especially the hockey federation of Macedonia had no chance to promote the sport or time to attract kids by taking part as there were only skates available but no sticks or gear. Also there was no possibility for ice hockey show-games on the rinks.
