Stamkos is 168th in scoring this season

Having played only 17 games, he’s ahead of many familiar names.
If you were living under a rock the last two months and just emerged and looked at the NHL scoring leaders and saw Steven Stamkos’ name at No. 168th, you’d think that he was having a down year with 20 points.

But you’ll notice he’s played 17 games.

You know who else has the same number of points as Stamkos while playing at least 40 games this season?

Carl Hagelin. Dylan Larkin. Patrice Bergeron. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. To name a few.

Jonathan Toews and Anze Kopitar have played around 35 games and have one more point than Stamkos. One!

So what does this all really mean? It’s more of a window of how some players are struggling to score this season. And that when Stamkos eventually comes back, he could have more points than some guys while playing half fewer games by the end of the season. That’s bananas.
