The IIHF Inline Hockey Qualification Europe for the WC 2017 was the fifth qualification tournament in total for Macedonia - and the first one with success for the Macedonian national team.
The Macedonian hockey team wrote history with the first win ever after already 10 played qualification games in the past years. On the first game day - in Steindorf, Austria - Macedonia was victorious over neighboring country Bulgaria, final score 11:5 (see game details below).
The second game in the Group A was versus Austria, and the favorited country won the game with no doubt 11:2. Macedonians played well the first half of the game but did not made any goal of the many chances they had, so the routined Austrian team outplayed the Red's.
The most spectacular game of the whole event was the facing of Macedonia with the northern neighbor Serbia. After a comfortable 4:0 lead Serbia fought back with five goals in a row and took the lead 4:5 middle last period. One minute later Macedonia egalized the score and was 'breaking the ice' 20 seconds remaining till end with the game winning shot.
With two wins and one defeat Macedonia took the second place in Group A after Austria, and before Serbia and Bulgaria.
In the final game for the third place Macedonia crossed the sticks with second placed group B team Israel. It seems that Macedonia was outpowered after the Serbian game the day before and Israel took over the role on the court defeating Macedonia 10:5.
With the fourth place of eight teams Macedonia made the best ranking since taking part in the IIHF event.
